SOLID WASTE - Recycling

It is strongly encouraged that all Waverly residents and businesses recycle as much material as possible, but it is not mandatory at this time.  In doing so, not only will you reduce the amount of garbage going to the Bremer County Landfill, but you will also reduce the amount of money you will spend for garbage stickers, which are required for disposal of your garbage.  By recycling, commercial businesses which use dumpsters may be able to reduce the number of days their dumpster needs to be emptied.

Curbside Recycling Collection:

The City also provides curbside collection of six recyclables:

1.  NEW!  All plastics (except the plastics not accepted at Recycling Center as listed above).  and no plastic grocery bags (curbside pickup only).  NEW!
2.  Clear Glass
3.  Steel Cans
4.  Single-Layered Cardboard (cereal boxes, etc.) – No waxed cardboard.
5.  Newspapers
6.  Slick Paper (magazines, catalogs, some junk mail, etc.)

There are no additional charges or stickers needed for curbside collection of your recyclables.  All you need is the City's green recycling container.  There should be a recycling container at your address.  If not, you can pick one up at the Recycling Center.  This recycling container is to stay at each address it is provided for.  It is not to be removed from the residence when you move.

If you place out at your curb (or alley) more than one of the above-listed curbside recyclables for collection by Waverly's Recycling Truck, the items need to be separated either by using bags or by using additional container(s) you purchased at a store.  The City does not accept your recyclables commingled.

Curbside Recycling Examples:

1.  You can place your newspapers loose in the bottom of the City's green recycling container and then place a bag or two of other curbside recyclable items on top of the newspapers.

2.  You could choose to use the green recycling box for just one item, such as single-layered cardboard or maybe newpapers, and then place a container or two of your own filled with other recyclables along side your green recycling box.

3.  Newspapers picked up by the Recycling Truck need to be either:
     a.  Bundled or bagged if placed outside green box.
     b.  Or placed loose in bottom of green box.

Curbside Recycling Schedule:

Curbside recyclables are picked up on your regular garbage day during the 1st and 3rd full weeks of each month.  They should be placed out for collection by 6:00 a.m.  (Note:  A full week is considered a 7-day week starting with Sunday.)
