Rail Trail - PhotosThe Waverly Rail Trail is one of Northeast Iowa’s finest and Bremer County’s only scenic bike trail. The 10-foot-wide asphalt trail was formerly the route of the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. The 7.5-mile trail begins three blocks north of the Bremer Avenue bridge along First Street Northwest. It crosses the river on a spectacular 500-foot former railroad bridge before passing through downtown Waverly. It goes past the historic former Chicago Northwestern train station, and the Bremer County Court House and continues southeast and east out of Waverly to Highway 63. Woods along the trail provide a natural habitat for deer, turkey, fox, and other woodland creatures. Eight bridges offer beautiful vistas of the surrounding countryside. Benches on the trail provide ideal spots for a brief rest or a picnic lunch or snack.
