Waverly Leisure Services is One of the Most Diverse Departments in the City:
· Serving over 50,000 people in parks, golf, and trail programs and events.
· Working cooperatively with Trees Forever, Friends of the Rail Trail, Chamber of Commerce Design,
and Waverly Garden Club who help extend services and protect parks.
· Welcoming all ages with programs at the outdoor swimming pool
· Offering great golf and learning opportunities at award winning 120 acre 18 hole City Golf Course.
· Serving skate board enthusiasts with a group interested in promoting and improving the Skate Park.
· All levels of disc golfers enjoy our quality course
· Keeping the 47 acre Cemetery reverent and beautiful for the 53 funeral services.
· Looking forward to offering, in the near future, Dog-Off-Leash-Area, Community/Urban gardens, and
other amenities to be as inclusive of the diverse population in Waverly and its needs.
· Working with the Fair/Diamond Committee to look at future development of a destination complex.
· Coordinating 3 Eagle Scout projects and numerous community service volunteer events.
· Removing snow from 6 miles of sidewalks and pedestrian trails.
· Caring for more than 376 acres of natural areas, sports fields and parks.
· Mowing over 120 acres weekly to offer pristine conditions in our parks.
· Picking up litter and emptying 86 garbage cans to keep our parks clean.
· Grooming 7 sports fields seasonally for softball/baseball/flag football (6) and rugby.
· Keeping 7 drinking fountains accessible and in working order throughout the city parks.
· Maintaining outdoor basketball (5) courts throughout the city.
· Managing 12 miles of trails/paths to help connect people to nature and fitness while offering sustainable
transportation options.
· Maintaining 5 parks and 2 golf course restrooms daily.
· Inspecting 12 playgrounds everyday for safety and accessibility.
· Providing access to the Cedar River through 2 public boating ramps and 1 dock.
· Protecting and caring for all trees and native plants throughout City Parks and public areas.
· Adding to Waverly’s beauty through 24 hanging flower pots and 16 park flower beds.
· Issuing 483 park shelter reservations/Civic Center room reservations annually for picnics, meetings,
family occasions, and special events in our parks and facilities.
