YASH - International YA fiction Scavenger Hunt!
While browsing through Pinterest (a common pastime of mine), I stumbled upon a pin that linked to a website for a online scavenger hunt all about new YA fiction authors and books. It is awesome!
Here's the link to the site: http://yascavengerhunt.blogspot.com/
This is how I believe it works: (I'm going to participate for the first time this Thursday starting at noon.)
The people who plan the scavenger hunt get in contact with a number of different YA fiction authors. This year I believe they have 50 authors! The authors then each are promoting one of their latest books. The authors are split into two teams - Red & Blue, 25 for each list.
On Thursday at 12:00PM Pacific Central Time the authors go onto their blogs and upload some special content just for the hunt. It is only up from the time the scavenger hunt starts until it ends on Dec. 2nd. In the blog posts there will be a number you need to keep track of and a link/clue to the next author's site. So you need to follow the links/clues through the list of authors/books for the blue team and/or red team until you've gone through them all. At each site you should collect part of the number code for the red or blue team, depending on which list of authors you choose to do. You can enter both the red and blue contests or just one.
If you get stuck and can't figure out what to do next, they have a link on their YASH blog site with the heading "Stuck?", where you can go and get help and continue on.
You can win some pretty neat prizes. They select two winners to receive a complete set of all of the different books each author is representing, signed by their authors and all! Then there are many individual book and other item prizes. If you are on the site, be sure to check out some of the past scavenger hunts and the prizes. It's quite the list! And even if you don't win, you still end up with a huge new reading list of books you might enjoy!
I don't know that we have many (or even any) of the books on the scavenger hunt, but I would be happy to order them if you find some of interest! Stop in or call in the library and just let us know! I encourage anyone even slightly interested in YA fiction to give YASH a shot! I'll be posting about my experience afterward. Best of luck!
