Welcome to the Waverly Volunteer Fire Department
We invite you to take a moment to learn about how we can help you and you can help us.
Department profile:
The Waverly Volunteer Fire Department proudly serves Waverly and the surrounding areas with fire protection coverage. We also respond to emergency calls for river rescues, automobile accidents and such, wherever and whenever we are called out to assist. Our organization consists at any time of between 30-40 citizens of the city of Waverly who are all volunteers dedicated to protecting the community through public service.
Members of the department are also members of the Iowa Fireman's Association and many are Nationally and State Certified to minimum standards as firefighters. We meet twice a month to train and conduct department business. We are your neighbors and your co-workers.
In 2007, the volunteers moved into a new facility. This is the third home of the WFD and will serve the department and community of Waverly and Bremer County well into the future. The new facility is a technologically advanced facility, boasting geothermal heating-for efficient, year-round constant temperatures, meeting rooms, training areas, a physical fitness area for fire fighters, and 7 apparatus bays, which accommodates the departments fleet of fire apparatus, including, 3 pumpers, 2 tankers, aerial, grass truck, rescue truck, boat, one all-terrain rescue/small field fire vehicle, and the bremer County Sheriff's boat.
The Waverly Fire Department recently acquired a 2008 E-one Bronto Aerial truck. The new aerial is equipped with an articulating boom, allowing for rooftop and multi-story rescue, and fire operation, as well as below grade rescue, making it a very versatile tool.
We are currently building a new museum next to the station. Once completed, the museum will house several pieces of antique fire apparatus and vehicles. The museum will be open year-round and free tours will be available by appointment. Please call the station at 352-5521 and leave a message to arrange your free tour.
Completion of the museum, purchase of the apparatus and vehicle displays and collections are all acquired and maintained by the volunteers and their fund-raising efforts. In addition to the museum, Waverly Volunteer Firefighters' fund raising also helps secure needed training and equipment throughout the year. The Waverly Firefighters are also proud to help "Fill the Boot" each year around Labor day to raise money for MDA and Muscular Dystrophy Research.
How You Can Help:
Please be courteous and pull over to the side of the road whenever you see any emergency vehicle approaching you from the front or the rear. Also be aware that we must first drive our personal vehicles to the fire station to respond to emergencies. Many of us have flashing blue lights that we use to identify us as firemen responding to a call. Some of us just use our car flashers as a signal. Remember, our timely response to the needs of our community and neighbors, relies on your assistance on the roadways. Thank you for your willingness to pull to the side and let us by when you see the flashing blue light or car flashers on.
